Scream Cream for Women: Benefits, Ingredients, Side Effects & How It Works
Let’s get one thing out of the way.
Yes, it’s a terrible name.
Despite sounding like something you’d find in an adult novelty store, Scream Cream is a legitimate prescription medication compounded by licensed pharmacies to help improve female sexual arousal.
For many women, especially during perimenopause and menopause, the desire for sex is still there but their body simply doesn’t respond the way it used to. It takes longer to become aroused, sensation feels muted, or orgasm becomes harder to achieve.
That’s exactly the problem Scream Cream is designed to treat.
What Is Scream Cream?
Scream Cream is a prescription compounded topical medication that’s applied to the clitoris and surrounding tissue about 30 minutes before intimacy.
Instead of working throughout your entire body, it works locally by increasing blood flow to the tissues involved in sexual arousal. More blood flow can lead to:
- Increased sensitivity
- Faster arousal
- Stronger engorgement
- Easier orgasm for some women
Unlike commercially manufactured medications, compounded Scream Cream can be customized. Your provider can adjust both the ingredients and their strengths based on your symptoms and how you respond.
That flexibility to design it specifically for you is one of its biggest advantages. Thankfully, we’re talking about the prescription’s flexibility– not necessarily yours.
Who Is a Good Candidate?
Scream Cream works best for women who:
- Want to have sex but struggle getting physically aroused
- Notice decreased genital sensation
- Take much longer to become aroused than they used to
- Feel like their body isn’t matching their desire
If your brain says yes but your body is slow to respond, Scream Cream is likely a good option to try. Women in perimenopause and menopause are among the most common candidates.
Who Probably Won’t Benefit?
Scream Cream doesn’t treat every sexual health concern. It probably isn’t the right choice if you:
- Have little or no interest in sex.
- Experience pain during sex because of vaginal dryness or thinning tissue.
- Struggle with relationship issues, anxiety, depression, or other emotional factors that affect intimacy.
Instead, you may benefit more from treatments like hormone replacement therapy (HRT), vaginal estrogen, counseling, PT-141, or a combination of therapies.
The key is treating the underlying cause, not just the symptom. We often see women try a treatment that targets arousal when the real issue is low desire, hormone changes, or vaginal tissue health. Finding the right diagnosis is the first step toward finding the right treatment.
How Does Scream Cream Work?
Female sexual arousal depends heavily on blood flow.
When you’re aroused, blood fills the clitoris and surrounding erogenous tissue. This increases sensitivity, lubrication, and the ability to climax.
Hormonal changes, certain medications, aging, diabetes, and reduced circulation can all make that response weaker.
Scream Cream helps by relaxing tiny blood vessels in the area, allowing more blood to reach the tissue when you’re sexually stimulated. And, because it’s applied directly to the treatment area, very little medication reaches the rest of the body making side effects less common.
What’s in Scream Cream?
There’s no single recipe for Scream Cream.
Instead, your provider writes a prescription, and a licensed compounding pharmacy custom-makes it just for you. Depending on your symptoms, it may contain ingredients like:
L-arginine
Helps increase blood flow by relaxing blood vessels.
Sildenafil
Yes, the same active ingredient as Viagra®. When used in a cream, it helps increase blood flow right where it’s applied.
Aminophylline
Helps relax blood vessels and improve circulation.
Pentoxifylline
Sometimes added to help blood move more easily through tiny blood vessels.
Low-dose testosterone
May improve sensitivity in some women if low hormone levels are part of the problem.
Your first prescription isn’t necessarily your forever prescription. One of the biggest advantages of compounded medications is that your provider can adjust the ingredients and strengths over time until you find what works best for you.
Does Scream Cream Actually Work?
For the right patient, yes.
Women whose primary problem is physical arousal often notice:
- faster arousal
- increased sensitivity
- stronger orgasms
- improved sexual satisfaction
However, it’s important to have realistic expectations. Scream Cream doesn’t create sexual desire.
If your brain isn’t interested in sex, improving blood flow usually isn’t enough.
Likewise, if intercourse is painful because of vaginal atrophy after menopause, rebuilding healthy tissue with vaginal estrogen is usually the first priority. The best results come from the right diagnosis. Sexual health is often influenced by hormones, blood flow, vaginal tissue, medications, stress, and more. We help identify the underlying cause, then work with you over time to fine-tune your treatment.
We don’t just prescribe Scream Cream and hope for the best.
How Long Does It Take to Work?
Most women notice effects within 15 to 45 minutes, although timing varies depending on the formulation and the individual.
A small amount is applied directly to the clitoral area before intimacy.
Using more than prescribed usually doesn’t improve results and may increase tingling or irritation.
Are There Side Effects?
Most “side effects” are actually the intended effects and are mild and temporary, including:
- warmth
- tingling
- increased sensitivity
Occasionally, women experience mild headaches or flushing if small amounts are absorbed into the bloodstream.
The medication can transfer to your partner through skin-to-skin contact. So before intimacy, gently wipe away any excess cream to help reduce the chance of transfer.
If your formulation contains sildenafil, tell your provider if you take nitrate medications for heart disease.
Is Scream Cream Safe?
Most women tolerate Scream Cream very well when an experienced provider prescribes it and a licensed compounding pharmacy prepares it.
Because you apply it directly to the treatment area, very little medication enters the bloodstream compared with oral medications.
Like any prescription medication, Scream Cream should only be used under the guidance of qualified healthcare providers, like those at Flow Wellness.
Do You Need Hormone Testing First?
Sometimes, but not always.
If your symptoms started around the same time as fatigue, poor sleep, hot flashes, brain fog, mood changes, or changes in your menstrual cycle, hormone changes may play a bigger role than decreased blood flow alone.
Many women get the best results from a combination of treatments, including HRT, vaginal estrogen, testosterone, PT-141, and Scream Cream.
The first step is finding the real cause of your symptoms. A thorough evaluation helps us choose the treatment, or combination of treatments, that’s most likely to help.
